Save a video when the website has no download button

Most websites offer no button to download a video. Yet keeping a copy of a video you posted, of a tutorial, or of a talk to watch again offline is a common need. With AllVideoDownloader, it takes a few seconds.

What you need

• Chrome, or a browser that installs extensions from the Chrome Web Store (Edge, Brave, Opera);
• the AllVideoDownloader extension, free to start with.

In 4 steps

1. Open the page of the video and start playing it.
2. Look at the AllVideoDownloader icon in the toolbar: it lights up and shows how many videos were found.
3. Click the icon: each video shows up with its thumbnail and title. Pick the quality — the best one is selected by default.
4. Click Download: the MP4 file lands in your Downloads folder, named after the page title.

Only the page's videos are offered: no need to sort through dozens of unknown files.

Why "Save video as…" doesn't work

Many websites don't serve their videos as a plain file. They cut them into small pieces a few seconds long, in several qualities, using formats called HLS or DASH. That's why a right-click gives you nothing, or an empty file.

AllVideoDownloader reads the list of available qualities, downloads the pieces of the one you picked and joins them into a single MP4 file, right on your computer. Nothing goes through our servers.

Keep only the sound

For a lesson, an interview or a filmed podcast, pick Audio only in the list of qualities. You get an M4A file — or an MP3, if you prefer it in the extension's settings.

Good to know

Only save what you have the right to save: your own videos, royalty-free content, or where the law allows it.
